The Kinross Corporate Head Office is located in downtown Toronto and supports Kinross operations and projects worldwide. Corporate functions include Finance, Procurement, Health & Safety, Human Resources, IT and Investor Relations.

Job Description

  • To oversee activities related to a moderately complex accounting process and to ensure service and / or operating standards are met (internally and / or externally).
  • To contribute to the design and development of processes, practices, and methodologies in external reporting.
  • To prepare financial statements and other reports for external purposes.

Job Responsibilities

  • Independently prepares consolidated financial statements and analysis for external purposes
  • Researches information and proposes new work approaches, methods and policies to optimize performance and to ensure adherence to industry regulations and organizational standards
  • Maintains all working papers of the financial statements and notes for each reporting period.
  • Works with Kinross’ external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits by assisting with the preparation of financial working papers
  • Using advanced professional knowledge, acts as an advisor to a variety of internal and / or external requests
  • Contributes to the development of policies and practices in external reporting
  • Prepares communication materials, manuals, and other written materials related to technical issues, programs, or systems
  • Keeps on top of trends related to external reporting and incorporates this information into work assignments and approach
  • Actively seeks mentorship and learning to improve product or technical knowledge and skill set
  • Assists in the development of accounting policies and procedures
  • Participates in the review of new accounting pronouncements, assesses the impact of such pronouncements on the company’s financial reporting and presents such findings to the Finance Department.
  • Assists in preparation of other corporate financial disclosures including MD&A, AIF’s, Corporate Responsibility reports and others
  • Contributes to non-routine projects and special initiatives within the Finance Group
  • Participates in task forces related to area of expertise
  • Assists with maintaining timelines for the Finance Department in each reporting period.
  • Assists process owners with documentation of controls and processes
  • Assists with the documentation and assessment of initial controls over financial reporting
  • Assists with the development of new processes and procedures where needed and correct key control deficiencies
  • Investigates, researches and analyzes information and issues related to external financial reporting
  • Assists with the preparation of technical reports and documentation to ensure compliance with industry and operational requirements
  • Assists with training and skill development on technical issues in external reporting
  • Provides information on operating standards, compliance requirements and policies

Education and Experience

Education

  • University graduation or diploma
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA or international equivalent) 

Experience

  • 3 – 5 years of related work experience or equivalent 

Skills

  • An ideal candidate will have post-qualification experience in a corporate accounting environment, preferably with exposure to consolidation and financial reports
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment
  • Flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments
  • Ability to organize and prioritize job duties

Scope 

  • Work is technical and complex and involves non-routine and advanced technical assignments.
  • Work is performed under limited direction according to broad guidelines.
  • Problem resolution involves using judgment to adapt and apply procedures to address and resolve unusual problem situations.
  • Outcomes are reviewed in terms of adherence to general policies, accuracy of methods and general efficiency.
  • Ensures quality standards are upheld in their field of specialization.

Skills

  • In depth understanding of Kinross’ processes a definite asset
  • Previous experience in the mining industry is preferred
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the corporation is essential
