The Kinross Corporate Head Office is located in downtown Toronto and supports Kinross operations and projects worldwide. Corporate functions include Finance, Procurement, Health & Safety, Human Resources, IT and Investor Relations.

Job Responsibilities

  Use advanced-level knowledge to support mineral processing projects and operational support.

• Directly manages programs conducted in laboratories and testing facilities for projects

• Acts as an ambassador for continuous improvement within metallurgy; introduces new methodologies and tools to improve current practices.

• Interacts with Operations Strategy and Technical Services personnel to define characteristics of ore resources/ reserves and corporate initiatives for operations excellence.

• Participates in technical projects

• Interacts with and/or supervises consultants and engineering groups engaged in development of specific Kinross processing projects at new or existing sites.

• Collaborates with cross functional teams and considers the business impact of decisions on diverse groups.

• Provides input to establishing best practice among the group of operations in mill metallurgical accounting practices and review of daily, monthly and annual metallurgical reports

• Provides technical input to site-based studies and operational improvements under mandate from regional directors.

• Monitors and evaluates metallurgical performance of the selected operations and if required develops and executes test programs for improving mill recovery, throughput and costs. To advise the management group on mineral processing and metallurgy

• Prepares business cases and reports regarding projects and initiatives and presents recommendations and status updates to key stakeholders

• Collaborates with peers to identify and analyze risks and opportunities related to the function.

• Participate in technical due diligence reviews

• Fields queries and issues related to technical area of expertise

• Participates in technical audits to support operations.

Proactively ensures Metallurgy and Mineral Processing initiatives fully consider health, safety and the impact on the environment and surrounding communities. Fosters a work environment where safety is a top priority. Assists in the development of policies and procedures relating to safety and the environment. Ensures that mine site technical staff and respective work areas are in compliance with Health and Safety policies and regulations. Ensures that mine site Processing staff have the necessary training, skills, knowledge, and tools to maintain Kinross' high EHS performance and standards. Assists in accident and incident investigations and supports the implementation of new policies and procedures by agreed upon dates. Wears required safety equipment while at mine sites. 

Scope of Responsibility & Complexity

Work is advanced in its complexity and involves new methodologies, approaches, or products requiring the interpretation of information to make recommendations. Problem resolution involves a high degree of independent judgement to interpret policy in situations where considerable variation in interpretation is possible. Applies theoretical concepts or original approaches to complete projects or assignments. Work is assessed based on attainment of objectives and effectiveness of results. Ensures quality standards are upheld in their field of specialization. Directs the work of project teams and / or task forces.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mineral Processing or Chemical Engineering
  • Formal professional designation in appropriate area of expertise
  • 5-8– years of related work experience in mineral processing facilities or engineering group
  • In-depth understanding of Kinross’ processes a definite asset
  • Experience in supervising or mentoring technical employees
  • Experience in leading projects of varying scope and complexity
  • Experience in interfacing with consultants and engineering contractors
  • Experience in leading and contributing to feasibility studies, engineering designs and business plans
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets
  • Proven knowledge of mine site operations and resource requirements
  • Familiarity with accepted concepts, practices and procedures for predictive and preventative maintenance of mine processing systems and equipment
  • Second languages skills
