Under moderate supervision, plan, organize and manage projects that provide and verify resource estimates of deposits. Supervise and develop staff in resource estimation procedures to ensure consistent, accurate and acceptable estimations of Company resources. Provide technical analysis and feedback to operating units to enhance the efficient and optimal mining of resources.
  • Perform geological evaluation and resource modeling estimation studies for the mining, exploration and technical services groups
  • Evaluate and analyze Model-Mine-Mill processes and reconciliation to provide remediation to operators prior to negative impacts
  • Assist with preparation of 10K Ore Reserve statements
  • Supervise, train and develop junior staff (Geologist I and II) in the procedures to ensure consistent and accurate geological models and resource estimates and reporting
  • Provide the Chief Geologist with information on a regular basis of the department's progress, problems and proposed solutions
  • Document and report all stages of model development and resource estimation. This supporting documentation must be available for later auditing and procedure verification
  • Develop and maintain practical procedural manuals for geologic resource estimation so that procedures can be clearly understood by both technical people and clients
  • Perform other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology or related Mining Engineering discipline and five (5) years of experience in resource estimation, OR
  • Master's degree in Geology and three (3) years of experience in resource estimation
  • Ability to meet qualification as a "Competent Person" under JORC rules for the reporting of Mineral Resources
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of geology and mining
  • Knowledge of the geology of porphyry and skarn hosted copper and gold systems
  • Understanding of US SEC and CRIRSCO-based international reporting standards
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal)
  • Skill in the practical application of resource estimation and geostatistics, working in multiple commodities
  • Good problem solving and judgment skills
  • Super-user in the operation of at least one of the major 3D Modeling software packages
  • Must be willing and able to learn to use Vulcan modeling software exclusively
  • Skill in mineral resource modeling and 3-dimensional geologic problem solving
  • Demonstrated ability in the production of technical reports.
  • Ability to work to a deadline
  • Ability to teach, and develop staff in technical skills.
  • Ability to communicate highly technical procedures and results to others both inside and outside the immediate group 

Qualifications

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Geology or Mining Engineering
  • Six (6) to eight (8) years of overall experience in geology, exploration or mining
  • Extensive UG mine geology experience, especially structural and geological mapping
  • Drill core logging interpretation and re-logging from core photos
  • Working experience with ethnically and culturally diverse staff
  • Ability to travel internationally up to 25% of the time

  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
  • Generally office based sedentary work
  • Occasionally will be required to make visits to active mine and exploration sites, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles, and may require the employee to demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
