HEAD OF MAINTENANCE

Job Title: HEAD OF MAINTENANCE
Reports to: CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
The position is in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Nigeria.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Comprehensive oversight of the up to date proactive and reactive maintenance of all dredgers and workboats (Dredgers and Workboats are US (DSC) manufactured)
• Responsibility for the planned and reactive maintenance of a fleet of over forty units of CAT marine engines and earth moving machines, MAN Diesel and IVECO Heavy Duty Trucks, Japanese make light trucks and cars and DENYO Power Generating Plants.
• Ensure preventive and breakdown maintenance procedures are strictly adhered to.
• Utilize best practice major maintenance tools and procedures.
• Analyze current procedures and activities to identify and present opportunities for improvement of the workshop.
• Ensure that the department is adequately staffed to achieve objectives, and that technicians are aware of procedures for using new products and equipment.
• Facilitate the orientation of new team members in collaboration with the Workshop Supervisor by familiarizing them with work surroundings, explaining work hours, procedures, use of equipment and job expectations and ensure that new team members understand their respective duties.
• Maintain good relationships with customers.
• Ensure adequate maintenance of tools, equipment and other materials in the Service Area.
• Facilitate the training and development of team members in the department by providing feedback and coaching to support improvements in their job performance.
• Conduct annual Performance Appraisal for Workshop Personnel.
• Provide advice and technical assistance to team members.
• Evaluate the impact of work delays, interruptions or changes in plans to develop appropriate course of actions.
• Monitor workflow to anticipate impact of delays due to team members being absent for leaves, holidays or sickness.
• Review customer’s service orders and inspect the quality of a technician repairs before the release of equipment’s.
• Review work orders to ensure that all actions have been documented according to Service Workshop policies and procedures.
• Plan and adjust the workloads of department personnel to match their skills and abilities.
• Plan and prepare annual budget for the department and facilities, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions.
• Follow up closely during implementation.
• Coordinate with sales department and arrange for delivery of products to customers.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 15 years in detailed hands-on mechanical/electronic maintenance work on CAT, MAN and IVECO trucks and machines.
• Experience working on dredgers and related marine equipment will be an added advantage.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED.

• Knowledge of mechanical issues, warranties, service and general repairs.
• Knowledge of as well as ability to use CAT ET/SIS, MAN and IVECO trucks diagnostic tools is compulsory.

Essential Requirements:
The candidate MUST be able to confidently use the CAT ET/SIS Diagnostic tool as well as have a working knowledge of MAN and IVECO diagnostic tools.

He should also be able to manage a workshop team that has the responsibility of ensuring the efficient operations of a joint fleet of DSC Dredgers/Caterpillar/MAN/IVECO/Power Generating Plants (Denyo)/operational vehicles of over forty units.

Previous experience working in sub-saharan Africa will be an advantage.
