Job Description

Cave management is a highly specialized section of the underground block cave mining operation and the custodian of the mineral reserves.  Its main function is to ensure sustained and profitable extraction of the mineral reserve.  Evaluate, recommend, and transfer the expertise and knowledge regarding Cave Management working plan and performance to support the management objective, enhance the quality and quantity of work according to the company standard operational and safety guideline.  Assure the implementation of effective cave management.
Additional Responsibilities:
  1. Develop high quality and practical cave management strategies that account the challenges unique to each mine.
  2. Perform field inspection to all active draw points and production areas, in order to get an updated field condition and compare to the plan.
  3. Coach and train Cave Management personnel with the new technology, mining method, Block Cave Mining technology, geology aspect and rock mechanic aspect to enhance their capability in performing the assigned task.
  4. Review and evaluate the current practice, planning and forecast of Cave Management in order to provide recommendation and suggestion for the short and long-term work plan.
  5. Review and evaluate the operational dispatch system to provide recommendation and suggestion to support and enhance the efficiency, accuracy and quality.
  6. Review the reasons for shortfalls in compliance to cave management plans and in collaboration with operations work to resolve these challenges to achieve draw strategy compliance and production targets.
  7. In collaboration with Geotech, review the impact of cave strategies on geotechnical outcomes and refine strategies to enhance the reliability of mining operations.
  8. Provide routine and incidental reports to the superior and management for performance review and progress status.
  9. In coordination with team, perform research and analysis for any assigned task or request (such as compare actual production grade to forecast) to provide comprehensive report and data as recommendation to the superior and management.
  10. Perform and advice to the special assignment from management (such as, DOZ Production, New Orleans Strategic Planning and Geology, Rock Mechanics, Hydrology, Mine Geology, and Engineering) to complete the assigned project and provide any guidance and advance request.


  • Bachelor’s Degree (S1) in Mining Engineering or equivalent with at least ten (10) years of working experience in related field, such as Block Cave Mine, in both technical and operating roles.
  • Experience with Cave Management in a complex Caving Mine.
  • Ability to manage through new and maturing caving operations.
  • Demonstrable ability to achieve production and cost objectives.
  • Demonstrable record of managing safe mine operations.
  • Experience in Cave Management, preferred to be both in engineering and operations.
  • Working knowledge of geology, ore deposits, ore reserve estimation principles, groundwater flow and mine dewatering, mining rock mechanics, metallurgy and mine planning.
  • Experience with PCBC an asset.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic level of the Indonesian language in understanding and oral (preferable but not essential).
