Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource base located in Nevada. It is the newest mine in Kinross’ portfolio and was acquired in January 2016.

Job Description

Lead the execution of strategy for the mine engineering function and ensure alignment with the organization’s overall strategy. Ensure continued growth of the mine engineering team, to maximize operational efficiencies and profitability, and to cultivate exceptional stakeholder and employee satisfaction while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Develop and establish standards of mine design and mine planning aligning with corporate standards.
  2. Lead execution of mine design and mine plan.
  3. Interface across departments and outside firms to ensure deliverables align with overall strategy and meet objectives.
  4. Provide technical support, advice and assistance to operations, technical services and project groups.
  5. Executes short and intermediate-term strategies that support the growth of the mine engineering team; ensures strategies are concretely linked to the organization’s overall strategy.
  6. Leads the execution of strategies in the mine engineering team to enhance current practices and performance.
  7. Develops systems and measures that appropriately assess the team’s performance and reviews progress to ensure achievement of targets.
  8. Manages the human, financial, and operational resources of the team.
  9. Formulates the annual operating and capital budgets for the team.
  10. Acts as a change agent and project sponsor for key initiatives; models organizational values, sets the cultural tone, and prioritizes business goals.
  11. Sets performance targets and measures, monitors, and manages the overall performance of the function and direct reports.
  12. Builds the capabilities of the team to enhance the engineering team’s ability to achieve financial and operating strategy; identifies succession role requirements and high potential talent and actively develops key talent.
  13. Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
  14. Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
  15. Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
  16. Works without risk or harm to self and others.
  17. Punctuality and regular attendance required.
  18. Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
  19. Performs other related functions as assigned by supervisor.

Education and Experience

  1. University degree (Bachelor of Science or Engineering) required.
  2. Prefer a degree in Mine Engineering.
  3. Formal professional designation in appropriate area of expertise preferred.
  4. Minimum of 10 years of related work experience.
  5. Knowledge and experience in coordinating the mine engineering functions for study phases, basic and detailed engineering through site development and operations.
  6. Knowledge and experience in developing policies and procedures relating to safety, the environment and individual, and organizational development.
  7. Proficiency with Vulcan or other industry standard mining software.
  8. Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to work independently.
  9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  10. Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
  11. Consistently seeking opportunities to improve processes, systems and tools.
  12. General knowledge of mining and the integration of the mining, milling, and maintenance functions.
  13. Knowledge and experience in developing policies and procedures relating to safety, the environment and individual, and organizational development.
  14. Proven leadership skills.
  15. Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
  16. General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.
  17. Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  18. Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills.
  19. Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
  20. Requires valid driver’s license.
