Fixed Plant Maintenance Planning Superintendent

Location: Tasiast, Inchiri region, Mauritania

Based in Mauritania, Kinross Tasiast is set to become one of the great gold finds of our generation. It is the first mine in a highly prospective greenstone belt, located within an extensive gold system that is largely underexplored.

Job Description

The Superintendent Maintenance Planner Fixed Plant is responsible for planning effective use of maintenance personnel and resources to achieve reliability and availability of fixed plant in the Processing plant.

  • Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and comply with all relevant policies and procedures.
  • Through the use of procedures to get the job done, ensure that improvements to the procedures are captured and changes are made to controlled documents by custodian.
  • Ensure effective communication of work and issues/conditions status  takes place with delegate prior to departure from site
  • Scheduling of all maintenance work through the use of the maintenance management system, to ensure resources are prioritised in accordance with the maintenance strategy.
  • Collection, interrogation and reporting of maintenance data and costs to assist in optimising the efficiency of the Processing plant

Job Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Supervisor immediately any actual or potential unsafe conditions or activities, mishaps, incidents, accidents, injuries or illnesses in the work place.
  • Complying with all policies, procedures and rules in place at specific work locations.



All employees are responsible for:

  • Adhering to environmental procedures to ensure good housekeeping, resource conservation, spill prevention and the appropriate disposal of wastes.
  • Reporting all environmental incidents to supervisor after implementing immediate corrective action.


Maintenance Planning

  • Ensure breakdowns, planned routine maintenance, non-routine maintenance, approved modifications and capital works are scheduled to be undertaken with minimum disruption to the process operation.
  • Ensure that parts, equipment, materials and tooling are receipted and allocated to the correct job before work is placed on the daily work schedule or shutdown schedule.
  • Allocate priorities on the daily work schedule or shutdown schedule and include copies of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP’s) or flag where Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s) are to be completed.
  • Provide daily work schedules to the Maintenance Supervisor for implementation.
  • Plan and schedule works for all mill shutdowns and arrange the engagement of contract labour and procurement of equipment to carry out the work.
  • Prepare and issue weekly maintenance activity reports.
  • Develop scopes of work for any required external services and liaise with contractors to obtain competitive prices in accordance with Kinross policy, for approval by the Deputy Maintenance Manager Fixed Plant.
  • Prepare and maintain, in conjunction with the Maintenance Supervisor Mech/ Elec/ Projects and maintenance teams, Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for all maintenance activities.
  • Liaise closely with the Supply Department to ensure expediting of outstanding orders, a continuity of supply of all replacement parts and spares levelling strategies.
  • Ensure history documentation is developed and is kept regularly updated on all works and conditioning monitoring of the process equipment.
  • Arrange for the updating of engineering drawings to reflect completed modifications.
  • Maintain all drawings, manuals and technical literature library.
  • Maintain the integrity of the maintenance management system. 
  • Relief supervision for shutdowns, as required.
  • Provide basic training assistance in respect to JDE.
  • Establish, monitor and report maintenance planning KPI’s including:
  • Planned Vs Actual job time estimates
  • Maintenance work order backlog
  • Break down, planned routine and non-routine maintenance
  • Planned routine maintenance scheduled compliance.
  • Track equipment availability and regularly report on its performance.  Analyse downtime and focus on critical downtime causes.

Education and Experience


  • Graduate Diploma or Certificate in Maintenance Planning or Engineering
  • Mechanical or Electrical Trade Certificate


  • 8 - 12 years related experience
  • Experience as a tradesperson in a minerals processing plant
  • 2 to 3 years’ experience planning and scheduling maintenance in a minerals processing plant
  • Demonstrated application of safe working procedures and inspection techniques


  • Knowledge of Preventive maintenance management
  • Knowledge of Equipment management – warranties, manufacturer’s specifications, standards for rotating equipment
  • Procurement and materials management
