Job Description

Lead engineering group for the Grasberg Block Cave (GBC) project in providing timely designs and best practice engineering solutions to support fulfillment of plans, milestones and schedules and also to ensure a successful and cost-effective development, construction and operation of ongoing expansion projects.
Additional Responsibilities:
  1. Coordinate, review, monitor, control and provide effective and cost efficient engineering designs and solutions to be implemented in line with milestones and project commitments.
  2. Develop engineering manpower and data bases to efficiently support projects.
  3. Analyze, review, and evaluate project progress having a strong in-field presence, being proactive in detecting opportunities and/or risks to the plans.
  4. Coordinate with Site, Phoenix and New Orleans planning groups to develop planning and scheduling of short-term activities based on controlling the Key Performance Indicator of each project to optimize the efficiency of manpower and Company's resources.
  5. Develop, coach, and motivate subordinates to enhance their skills, knowledge and capability.
  6. Review and analyze expansion progress' status periodically (i.e. monthly goals and actual achievements) in order to provide information to respective parties on the progress.
  7. Coordinate with internal departments (e.g. Operational Department, as well as other engineering departments) on a routine basis through daily, weekly and achievement meetings in order to ensure the GBC operational team comply with the determined plan.
  8. Guide, monitor, and control department safety programs: tracking of departmental safety accountabilities, regular safety inspections, identifying new safety approaches, etc., in order to achieve and ensure that all safety procedures are met.


  • Bachelor’s degree (S1) in an engineering related discipline with seven (7) years working experience in related large scale, complex underground mining projects.
  • Working knowledge of geology, ore deposits, ore reserve estimation principles, groundwater flow and mine dewatering, mining rock mechanics, metallurgy and mine planning.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Computer skills, particularly in design packages such as Deswik, CAD and Vulcan.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a diverse cultural environment.
  • Proven ability to train, coach, counsel, mentor, and motivate as required.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment.
  • High level communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong English skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Highly proactive and achievement oriented.
  • Highly focused toward satisfying customer requirements.
  • Strong managerial, supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Other PTFI mandatory competencies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic level of the Indonesian language in understanding and oral (preferable but not essential).
