Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach.

Job Description

Under the direction of the Engineering Superintendent, the incumbent is responsible for mine design, long term mine planning, economic evaluation, and management of major construction projects.

Job Responsibilities

  • Long-range mine planning:  Pit Optimization, Prepare ultimate pit designs, optimum pit phase designs and related schedules, dumping designs and schedules, leach pad designs and loading schedules and  Life of Mine Plans.
  • Production scheduling:  Produces mine schedules for annual budgeting and long-range schedules for LOM planning.
  • Project management: Manages design, bidding and contracting of construction projects.
  • Economic analysis: Evaluates economic performance of projects, mine plans and equipment replacement analyses.
  • Incumbent will be responsible for successful design, bidding, contracting and completion of multi-million dollar construction projects.
  • Must successfully prepare optimal mine designs, schedules, and Life of Mine Plans as needed.
  • Prepare all information require for Corporate regarding with LOM plans.
  • Must work closely with the Geology Department in preparing the reserve estimate and provide proper documentation for outside review of these estimates.
  • Must work closely with Processing, Metallurgy and Mine Department for define theirs requirements and collect proper information for preparation of the mine plans.

Education and Experience

  • Ability to demonstrate superior project design and management skills.
  • Ability to successfully complete and negotiate construction contracts that minimize project cost and completion time while optimizing project value.
  • Must have excellent mine planning skills with the ability to generate and optimize plans and schedules.
  • Should be skilled in economic evaluation and sensitivity analysis of projects and plans, including cashflow analysis and rate of return calculation.
  • Must be skilled in Vulcan, Whittle, AutoCad, and Microsoft Office programs, including MS Powerpoint and Project, user of MSSO software is preferable
  • Ability to effectively present information to all levels of personnel from hourly to vice president level.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate and collaborate with mine operating staff to complete mine plans, budgets, and construction projects.
  • Excellent writing skills are required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or a closely related discipline from an accredited university.
  • A minimum of five to ten years experience in mine engineering activities at an open pit.
  • Registration as a professional mining engineer in Nevada is preferred.
