Provide direction, supervision and advanced problem solving.  Review and improve the performance of existing automation systems.

  • Review and improve performance of discrete, continuous and advanced control, controller equipment and software, and the HMI
  • Identify opportunities and implement process optimization through automation
  • Regular review and improvement of alarm management systems (alarm rationalization)
  • Participate and represent process automation in HAZOP and other safety and reliability processes and studies
  • Identify and troubleshoot specialized, analytical and advanced sensors
  • Review and improve performance of PCS communication and the Plant Historian
  • Perform other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED and (9) nine years of Engineering experience, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Scientific discipline and (5) five years of Engineering experience, OR
  • Master’s degree in an appropriate Scientific discipline and three (3) years of Engineering experience



  • ·         Experience in Project Management, including developing scope of work, time line, budget, benefit analysis, etc.

    ·         Experience in Commissioning start ups

    ·         Experience in Process Automation related to ore processing

    ·         Process Engineering experience

    ·         Rockwell specific PLC/HMI training and experience

    ·         OSI PI or similar historian training and experience

    ·         Electrical Safety Certification NFPA 70E

    ·         Supervisory experience with engineering / technical staff

    ·         Vendor / ISA certification

    ·         Experience in PLC/DCS system design and panel builds


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    ·         Knowledge of electrical hazards and ability to select the proper PPE for arc flash, blast, and electrical shock

    ·         Demonstrated leadership in safety

    ·         Ability to use advanced tools and standard code libraries to develop PLC/HMI projects

    ·         Ability to develop and maintain specifications for HMI development, PLC programming, alarm management, etc.

    ·         Ability to develop and maintain specifications for process optimization systems

    ·         Ability to tune loops using industry standard methods

    ·         Must be familiar with alternate/advanced control methods for troublesome loops

    ·         Ability to design, troubleshoot and maintain industrial networks

    ·         Ability to develop and maintain P&IDs, PFDs, and other technical documentation


  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
  • Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
