Under close supervision, assists with routine small and medium-sized Engineering projects including layout and design, specification development and preparation, new product evaluation, and data collection to support operations or the Engineering unit at assigned site.

  • Assembles data and assists with problem-solving requiring basic theories and Engineering fundamentals
  • Utilizes computer programs to solve Engineering problems
  • Assists with layout and design of routine small and medium-sized Engineering projects
  • Assists with specification development or preparation
  • Assists with technical evaluation of equipment and material
  • Assists in maintaining accurate and current project documentation
  • May perform as a member of a survey or GPS mapping crew
  • Performs other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • One (1) year of experience in an Engineering or Technical area relevant to the assignment
  • Knowledge of specialized equipment, methods and techniques appropriate to assignment, including GIS/GPS mapping techniques
  • Skill in safely using, maintaining and repairing specialized equipment to complete assigned projects
  • Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards

Qualifications

Preferred

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Surveying experience and/or knowledge of mine geography
  • Experience working with Slope Engineer to measure various physical features to optimize slope angles
  • Ability to locate and maintain Prism locations and monitoring equipment
  • Experience with automated and manual Prism data collection and entry
  • Experience with AutoCAD maps
  • Experience gathering and downloading blast induced seismic data
  • Ability to assist with drilling programs and provide drill contractor supervision as needed
  • Experience collecting and recording groundwater data
  • Ability to maintain inventory of monitoring supplies
  • Intermediate ability level with Excel Spreadsheet, including specific knowledge of Charting and formula entry
  • Strong time management skills 

Criteria/Conditions

  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
  • Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, and work on elevated platforms
  • Occasionally may be required to lift up to fifty (50) pounds during the course of the work day
  • May be required to work rotating shifts in a 24/7/365 operation
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
