Mine Technology Database Engineer

Job Description

The Mine Technology Database Engineer (MTDBE) is responsible for ongoing maintenance and development of reporting and SQL Server databases under the Tasiast Mine Technology Department.  These currently include, but are not limited to:  TASMR Central Reporting Database, Tasiast Machine Health Reporting and Condition Monitoring database, MMRS Reporting for Mine Operations, Dispatch 6 Real Time Reporting.  The MTDBE will utilize modern technologies to adhere to a philosophy of centralizing, integrating and automating the many sources of data at Tasiast. 

Job Responsibilities

Includes but not limited to:

  • Create and maintain ETL routines to integrate disparate data sources.
  • Create and maintain SQL Server Reporting Services reports.
  • Seek out opportunities to integrate and automate tasks currently consuming labor hours throughout departments at Tasiast.
  • Monitor data integrity and accuracy of reports, debugging and correcting where needed.
  • Build new tools for the visualization and trending of critical data measuring business performance.
  • Liaise with IT to ensure the health of all Virtual Servers
  • Develop efficient, robust cost reporting from JDE sourced data.
  • Maintain standards of security and data access
  • Develop the use of Mobile Reporting on wireless devices at Tasiast.
  • Develop programs for short interval control using Mobile Reporting
  • Write documentation for new and existing systems and features.
  • Liaise with Mobile Maintenance condition monitoring team to exploit opportunities that will increase machine availability.

Education and Experience

Mandatory Requirements for this position:

  • High regard for safety and the principles of risk management.
  • University level degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related subjects.
  • Ability to write and debug SQL script.
  • Advanced skills in any programming language (VBA, R, Python, JavaScript, C# or other).
  • Knowledge of fundamental statistical principles.
  • Exceptionally high level of attention to detail.
  • High level of creativity, self-motivation and a passion for Technology.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to multi task in a high pressure environment.
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Light Vehicle driver’s license.


Additional highly regarded but not mandatory skills, knowledge, training, and experience:

  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA): SQL Server Certification.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Azure products
  • Experience with Microsoft Power BI.
  • Experience developing Business Intelligence solutions outside of Mining Industry.
