Job Description

To provide technical support in mechanical engineering and project related activities; to implement corporate policies, standards and specifications related to mechanical engineering. Act in a role as Owner Engineer rep overseeing mechanical discipline activities on greenfield and brownfield capital projects.  To participate in medium to long-term business and / or project planning on key projects by providing technical and cross-functional support.  To manage the work of EPCM consultants. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Participate in key technical projects requiring mechanical engineering input/oversight including defining and achieving project goals, anticipating and minimizing risks, project management, managing resources and consultants. 
  • Review project documents (policies, standards, specifications, drawings, data sheets related to mechanical systems to assure they meet project objectives.
  • Review cost estimates prepared by EPCM consultants.
  • Interface with the Site Operations teams
  • Seek and implement opportunities to add value to projects
  • Support in construction and commissioning of projects (short term visits)
  • Provide cost, scope and schedule control support as required by the project circumstances or directed by the Engineering Manager.  This may include disciplines other than mechanical. 
  • Assist commercial teams with technical support in procurement efforts related to mechanical packages
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams
  • Prepare capital costs and reports regarding projects and initiatives and presents recommendations and status updates to management
  • Take coordinator role in construction and commissioning of mechanical systems.
  • Assist in the calculation and reporting of energy use and related GHG emissions.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Formal professional designation in Mechanical Engineering (preferred)
  • 2+ years of related work experience  
  • Experience with sizing, selection, engineering and construction of mechanical systems.  
  • Experience with mechanical engineering aspects of projects of varying scope and complexity from planning to commissioning stages. 
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of large multi-disciplinary teams
  • International experience an asset
  • Project management experience an asset



  • Strong communications and presentation skills, especially working with multi-disciplinary teams in multiple locations 
  • Works well in a structured, corporate environment
  • Team player with a strong inclination towards developing co-operative solutions, especially in situations where do not have direct authority.
  • Bilingual in Portuguese, Spanish, French or Russian an asset
