Ore Processing Mechanical Supervisor - Tasiast

Location: Tasiast, Inchiri region, Mauritania

Based in Mauritania, Kinross Tasiast is set to become one of the great gold finds of our generation. It is the first mine in a highly prospective greenstone belt, located within an extensive gold system that is largely underexplored.

Job Description

The Ore Processing Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the safety and availability of the processing plant with direct supervision of Maintenance Personnel.

  • Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and comply with all relevant policies and procedures.
  • Through the use of procedures to carry out tasks, ensure that improvements to the procedures are captured and changes are made to controlled documents by custodian.
  • Ensure effective communication of plant maintenance issues/conditions status  takes place with delegate prior to departure from site
  • Ensure work is conducted in a safe manner and any safety issues are remedied and/or promptly reported to Maintenance and planning Superintendents.
  • Communicate safety and maintenance issues on a shift-by-shift basis
  • Assign tasks, equipment, work areas and targets to safely and efficiently achieve those targets
  • Carry out statutory workplace inspections and monitor employees and contractors in their tasks.
  • Performance manage personnel to upskill abilities

 

Job Responsibilities

Safety

All employees are responsible for:

  • Identifying the hazards and risks in their work area and using the correct controls.
  • Reporting to their Supervisor immediately any actual or potential unsafe conditions or activities, near miss, mishaps, incidents, accidents, injuries or illnesses in the work place.
  • Ensure they are conversant with CMO, (Training Provided)
  • Ensure all potential unsafe conditions or activities, near miss, mishaps, incidents, accidents, injuries or illnesses are entered into CMO prior to the end of the shift.
  • Complying with all policies, procedures and rules in place at specific work locations.

 

Environment

All employees are responsible for:

  • Adhering to environmental procedures to ensure good housekeeping, resource conservation, spill prevention and the appropriate disposal of wastes.
  • Reporting all environmental incidents to supervisor after implementing immediate corrective action.

 

Employee Development

  • Ensure employees have clearly defined accountabilities, roles and individual development plans.  Provide feedback on performance and conduct formal performance reviews.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of up to date job procedures for tasks performed by the team.
  • Work with the Maintenance Superintendent and Mill Training Team to facilitate ongoing skill assessment and development.

 

Inspection

  • Undertake inspection of all working areas as required to ensure safe operations and comply with Kinross standards, policies and procedures
  • Observe process operators carrying out their duties to ensure safe and efficient operation complying with Kinross standards, policies and procedures.

 

Maintenance Requirements

  • Facilitate and lead the pre-shift tool box meetings and safety meetings
  • Allocate tasks and targets to team members to achieve plant maintenance and monitoring.  Acknowledge their understanding before commencing work.
  • Ensure plant availability and budget KPI’s are maintained.
  • Prioritise, resource and coordinate all unplanned work that arises over the course of the week.
  • Monitor progress of assigned tasks and address any issues.
  • Ensure maintenance personnel are carrying out housekeeping of their areas including work shops
  • Ensure that all inspections and PM’s are being carried out and completed to a high standard.
  • Ensure all samples are taken as scheduled and all maintenance data is recorded according to operating procedures
  •  
  • Liaise with Operations, regarding any technical issues in relation to plant operation, maintenance and communicate to relevant information.
  • Be proficient in JDE to add work requests and work orders
  • Raise purchase orders for parts, equipment and consumables
  • Complete accurate and timely shift reports and authorise completed timesheets.
  • Communicate the business objectives with team members to support their engagement and to focus all activity on agreed outcomes.
  • Arrange adequate shift coverage managing all leave and rosters.
  • Assist in the preparation of end-of-month reports (to include budget variances, safety performance and maintenance improvements).

Education and Experience

 Completion of formal professional certification or designation in appropriate area of expertise

Have good English, French language skills. ( Not Prerequisite but will  be highly regarded)

Have 10+ years Fixed plant mechanical knowledge,

Sag mill and Ball mills, Gyratory Crusher, small cone and Jaw crusher experience, Pumps, conveyors, welding, pipe fitting, general fabrication skills, Air Compressors, Air dryers and oxygen plant knowledge.

Skills

• General knowledge of mining and the integration of the mining, milling, and maintenance functions
• Good understanding of gold metallurgy
• Good working knowledge and skills with a PC utilizing word processing and spreadsheet programs
• Detailed knowledge of established mining methods and operating practices
