Teranga is a multi-jurisdictional West African gold company focused on production and development as well as the exploration of more than 6,400 km2 of land located on prospective gold belts. Since its initial public offering in 2010, Teranga has produced more than 1.5 million ounces of gold from its operations in Senegal, which as of June 30, 2018 had a reserve base of 2.5 million ounces of gold. Focused on diversification and growth, the Company is advancing its Wahgnion Gold Project in Burkina Faso towards delivering its second producing gold mine, as well as carrying out exploration programs in three West African countries: Burkina Fas, Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal. The Company has 4.1 million ounces of gold reserves from its combined Sabodala Gold operations and Wahgnion Gold Project as of June 30, 2018. Teranga applies a rigorous capital allocation framework for its investment decisions to execute on its growth strategy relying on a combination of cash on the balance sheet, free cash flow from operations and debt.

This is an expatriate, fly-in fly-out role: 8 weeks on / 4 weeks off roster with travel in company time to our Wahgnion project & new mine site in Burkina Faso.

This position reports to the Mine Manager & is responsible for the maximal recovery of ore from the mine in a safe and economical fashion; assumes grade control functions and reconciliation with reserves, preparation of production forecasting for ore (grades and tonnes), monitor integrity of ore recovered and processed from stockpiles & the collection of relevant data; interpretation and analysis of the data and management of data quality.

Key Responsibilities


  • To provide and maintain geological planning and functional services to support the medium and long term objectives as per the strategic business plan.
  • To control and optimize ore delivery from the mine and stockpiles
  • Provide guidance and support to the mine geological staff to ensure the operational needs are fulfilled in an efficient, safe, professional manner
  • To actively participate and be accountable for the budgets and forecasts and reporting for the medium and long term mine geological functions.
  • Actively develop mine optimizations – economic analysis. To participate in the modification of pit design and mine schedules based on Geological input.
  • Develop the skills of peers and subordinates of the mining department
  • Deliver supporting services of high quality to meet business requirements in a timely manner when requested.
  •          Head of department in mine geology;
  •          To ensure the mining operation delivers ore for processing at budgeted tonnes, grade, safely and at the lowest cost;
  •          5 years plan update to maximize asset performance;
  •          Ensure quarterly production schedules and forecasts are produced on a rolling monthly basis to meet production budget;
  •         Compilation and/or review of all mining data and ensure the relevance, necessity and representatively;
  •          Mentor national geologists;
  •          To achieve the above objectives with due consideration to safety, the environment, statutory obligations and the efficient management of the company’s assets and human resources.

Required Skills & Experience


·         Minimum Bachelor Degree in Geology is required. A Masters Degree Geology would be considered an asset.

·         15+ years as a professional Geologist in a large open cut mining operation.

·         Ability in block production grade modelling and scheduling using software such as spreadsheets, Vulcan, MineSched.

·         High level of computer skills and proficiency of MS Office Suite, mine design software.

·         Ability to synthesise large complex data sets to develop drill targets and set priorities.

·         Experience working in developing countries and mentoring Geologists at all levels

·         Previous experience supervising, mentoring and training a team of local staff, contractors and labourers.

·         French language skills an asset
