Health, Safety, Environmental & Community Coordinator (HSEC) - Denver base with travel

AngloGold Ashanti is seeking an experienced and driven Health, Safety, Environmental & Community (HSEC) Coordinator to join the North American Exploration Team. This role will primarily focus on providing Health and Safety support to the North American Exploration Team, but will also be expected to contribute to the Environmental and Community elements of exploration activities for the Company, primarily in the USA. This is a permanent full-time opportunity to commence immediately. The HSEC Coordinator will be based out of the Denver office, but may be required to spend a significant amount of time in the field. We therefore require a candidate who is able to work flexible rosters, sometimes with short notice, to align with business needs. The ideal candidate will be results focused, and have experience working in a similar role. 

Primary Responsibilities:

• Work with the Exploration Manager to ensure appropriate planning for health, safety, environment and community compliance and activities.
• Provide visible leadership to improve health, safety, environmental and community risk identification, reporting and incident management.
• Develop, implement and improve the Company Safety Management System to ensure compliance with OSHA and/or MSHA rules and regulations.
• Provide advice to ensure that all exploration is conducted in accordance with statutory requirements and other health, safety, environment and community obligations.
• Complete necessary statutory HSEC reports and ensure accurate internal reporting of HSEC performance.
• Liaise with drilling companies and other service providers to ensure that they comply with AGA HSEC standards.
• Continually monitor and manage training requirements of all employees to ensure skills requirements are met. Maintain an accurate and full account of all training, inductions and assessments conducted.
• Conduct audits, meetings, training, seminars and other activities designed to enhance HSEC awareness as prescribed by AGA policies and procedures.
• Ensure that all environmental and community approvals are in place prior to exploration and engage with regulatory and NGO agencies to ensure access to ground is maintained.
• Work with the exploration team to ensure that rehabilitation activities are completed as soon as practicable. Ensure appropriate monitoring and record keeping of rehabilitation activities.
• Support alignment to ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 certification.
• Prepare timely, accurate and detailed reports to meet Company requirements.

Knowledge & Skills:

▪ Minimum 5, but typically 7+ years’ experience in exploration and/or mining.
▪ A tertiary qualification in sustainability related field or other relevant/ complementary qualifications.
▪ Self-motivated, well organised with attention to detail and adaptable, with high initiative and excellent communication and negotiation skills.
▪ An understanding of safety management systems and their practical implementation.
▪ Practical knowledge of working in hazardous industries with the capacity to readily identify, assess and
provide professional direction in relation to the exploration risk profile.
▪ Broad based knowledge and understanding of hazards and impacts associated with exploration, mining
operations or other high-risk industry.
▪ A sound understanding of applicable legislation.
▪ Medically fit to work in remote locations with limited medical facilities and able to maintain relevant
vaccination requirements.
▪ Valid driver’s license and proficiency in operating 4WD vehicles.
▪ First Aid certificate equivalent or better, or willingness to undertake first aid training.
