Purpose of the Role

 

To effectively provide safe, quality and timely sample preparation and analysis for laboratory process operations.

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Understand the hazards for each task and ensure appropriate controls are in place to ensure the task is safe to undertake.
  • Prepare and analyses samples using laboratory test methods and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure all tasks are completed within the required time frame to achieve the required analytical turnaround time.
  • Operate and assist in the maintenance of equipment and instruments in accordance with test methods and work instructions.
  • Monitor consumable levels and assist with designated min/max stock levels and report any stock shortages to the Laboratory Leading Hand.
  • Participate in shift change handover meetings which are held at the start and end of every shift and provide quality information to the oncoming shift.
  • Conduct hand-over with back-to-back lab technicians and team members.
  • Ensuring safety incidents and hazards are correctly documented and reported to the Laboratory Supervisor/ Leading Hand.
  • "Ensure compliance to the daily work plan as set by the Laboratory Supervisor/ Leading Hand. This includes Laboratory Technicians having a good understanding
  • of any urgent work which needs to be completed as a priority."
  • Ensure all critical safety, quality or production issues are communicated to the Laboratory Supervisor / Leading Hand so these issues can be addressed promptly.

Mandatory Requirements

 

  • Knowledge of and ability to act within established health, safety and environmental standards.
  • Good analytical and problem solving abilities.
  • Methodical approach to work practices with emphasis on quality.
  • At least 12 months experience in the minerals processing industry.

Desirable Skills

 

  • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
  • Good knowledge of applied chemistry as practiced in the mining industry, particularly in the areas of sample preparation, fire assay, AAS instrumental techniques.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a science discipline preferably chemistry.
