Works with and supports Commodity Managers as they manage their associated commodity responsibilities, including directly managing small projects and/or portions of the Commodity Manager’s commodity portfolio to develop commodity management skills.  Participates in commercial negotiations and contract development to ensure favorable terms that mitigate Freeport-McMoRan’s risk.  Provides analytical support to Commodity Managers and Global Supply Chain (GSC) Management through utilizing data gathering/management tools and total cost of ownership techniques to improve and optimize commodity management and GSC processes. 

  • Work with GSC Commodity Managers to analyze commodity cost drivers and to develop creative solutions to managing and reducing total cost of ownership
  • Actively participate in negotiations and contract development for assigned projects and/or associated Commodity Manager assignments
  • Develop, coordinate, and execute commodity analysis projects
  • Lead and participate on teams for commodity total cost of ownership improvement and process optimization
  • Use cost management techniques to identify and develop commodity total cost measures and models based on industry cost drivers
  • Lead and execute data analysis using developed models, provide interpretation, and make recommendations for actions
  • Actively participate on internal and external teams that identify key suppliers and develop strategic alliances for associated Commodity Manager assignments
  • Lead and create collections of information on commodity market factors (market intelligence) and key influences
  • Develop supplier “should cost” and pricing models
  • Develop approaches for measuring and communicating commodity costs and performance on a regular basis
  • Develop project presentations for Management that clearly communicate results of assignments
  • Provide periodic reporting on primary responsibilities
  • Research, develop, and implement supply chain processes, best practices and strategies to improve efficiency, reduce cost, and increase throughput within the Supply Chain function
  • Develop and continuously refine purchasing policies and practices
  • Perform root cause analysis on commodity functions and manage high dollar, high risk purchases
  • Perform other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of combined experience in inventory management, system and project management and analysis projects;OR
  • Master's degree and four (4) years of combined experience in inventory management, system and project management and analysis projects
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven understanding of supply chain management strategies and concepts
  • Self-directed, team player with sound negotiation
  • Demonstrated creative and innovative problem solving skills (critical and evaluative thinking)
  • Strong interpersonal capability and ability to work cross functionally and across divisions
  • Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with large complex linked spreadsheets and databases
  • Intermediate knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access and ERP systems



  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or related discipline and six (6) years of combined experience in inventory management, system and project management and analysis projects; OR
  • Master's degree in Business, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or related discipline and four (4) years of combined experience in inventory management, system and project management and analysis projects (Graduate degree can be combination of business and technical undergrad and graduate degrees)
  • Knowledge and experience with projects and processes related to supply chain and/or operational management including supply chain contracts, material usage, inventory control techniques, cost/price methodologies, and planning systems
  • Knowledge and experience with accounting reports and financial analysis techniques
  • Supply chain consulting skills
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate effectively within a complex organizational structure to drive organizational and business process reengineering
  • Experience working with and traveling to international operations
  • Experience in using SAP and CAS for creating Purchase orders as well as contracts
  • Experience with Exploration Mining
  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
  • Position is in busy, non-smoking office located in downtown Phoenix, AZ
  • Location requires mobility in an office environment; each floor is accessible by elevator
  • Occasionally work will be performed in a mine, outdoor or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
  • Must be able to frequently sit, stand and walk
  • Must be able to frequently lift and carry up to ten (10) pounds
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in an outdoor or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and other protective equipment as required
