The Role

The Assistant Mill Manger will lead the mill group ensuring that health and safety objectives are sustained and that both production and cost objectives are achieved. The Assistant Mill Manager will provide a strong leadership platform to ensure alignment between sub groups is sustained and relationship with external shareholders are supported in the interest of the company strategic objectives. The Assistant Mill Manager will also have the capacity to complete and manage the budgeting process through cost estimating and financial models. The Assistant Mill Manager will also drive solution processes to eliminate production deficiencies and drive opportunities in efforts to de-risk and optimize processes.

Your Responsibilities:

Key Area: Manage the mill department to exceed plant performance and cost targets.

Health and safety objectives are achieved or surpassed through adherence to company policies and support of initiatives.
Plant performance is maintained through the development of supporting technologies and effective utilization of various plant key process indicators.
Process availability targets are achieved through effective supports of sub group activities and scheduling of various trades activities in line with equipment requirements and business needs.
Costs targets are established through effective budgeting protocols to ensure targets are set to challenge business performance to ensure cost controls are maintained as a core aspect of the business.
Mill subgroups are to be managed to ensure alignment to business needs and to support cross boundary needs to foster strong bonds between both internal and external stakeholders.
Activities are performed in line with company policies related to safety, environment and CLA guidelines.

Key Area: To lead and manage a team responsible for executing mill strategy

Sets performance targets and measures, monitors, and manages the overall performance of the team and direct reports.
Build the capabilities of the team to enhance their ability to achieve technical competencies; hires appropriately, leverages the talents of the team, and takes corrective action when necessary.
Identifies key performance measures for the team; monitors and reports on the achievement of targets, and revises strategies as needed.
Initiates and leads change management initiatives that make improvement to the operation overall, or that lead provide improvement in the utilization of assets or personnel.
Demonstrates that safety is a priority in the execution of all assigned tasks.
Key Area: To use experience and technical exposure to support mill optimization initiatives

Leading initiatives to further enhance process performance including defining and achieving project goals, anticipating and minimizing risks and supporting resources.
Supporting both internal and external stakeholder initiatives targeting cost reduction and controls.
The support of mine to mill initiatives including both geo-metallurgy and operationally linked processes which target both cost and performance aspects.
Appraise processing methods and operating costs. Identify key success factors and issues that could impact the economic viability of potential projects under consideration.
Demonstrates strict adherence to the management of change (MOC) processes to ensure that all changes and modifications to the operation and


What we look for:

University degree in Process Engineering or related field and equivalent work experience.
Minimum 5 years progressive experience in senior management experience.
Minimum 10 years of experience supervising others.
Minimum 10 years of experience being responsible for an operational, maintenance, or project budgets greater than $1M.
Experience with comminution systems ideally SABC circuits
Experience in CIL / CIP gold recovery circuits
Exposure to gold gravity separation circuits
Working knowledge and supervision of metallurgical & analytical services would be of advantage
Strong skills in Microsoft Word, and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
Leadership Requirements
Management of multiple sub departments
Supervision of multi ethnic work force in third world country would be an asset
Capacity to lead and motivate across stakeholder boundaries
