The Role


To provide operational and tactical HR support to the business regarding various human resources matters for a smooth running of Employee and Labor Relations. Provide expertise and information regarding Employee and Labor Relations HR issues ensuring compliance to legislation and company policy. The HR Advisor - Employee and Labor Relations is responsible for managing the employee relations and collective bargaining administration for RGM.

Your Responsibilities:

Promote sound labor relations with the union representing the Rosebel employees and advise on corrective and preventive action

Investigate and evaluate union/employee complaints or arguments to determine viability;
Investigate disciplinary matters and provide proper advise in line with the CLA and local legislation;
Present the position of the company during arbitration or other labor negotiations;
Schedule and coordinate details of grievance hearings or other meetings;
Prepare evidence for discipline hearings, including preparing witnesses to testify;
Monitor company and workforce adherence to labor agreements;
Propose resolutions for collective bargaining and other labor or contract negotiations;
Assist with negotiating collective bargaining agreements;
Support the development of labor relations skills of the bargaining unit managers through active participation in grievance handling at all stages of the grievance and arbitration procedure; provide hands on training in labor relations matters including discipline, grievance handling and general administration of collective agreements.
Attendance and voluntary/involuntary termination cases
Monitor daily attendance;
Investigate and analyze causes for staff absences;
Recommend solutions to resolve chronic attendance issues and coach repeat-offenders;
Provide advice and recommendations on related disciplinary actions for offenders;
Monitor scheduled absences such as holidays or travel and coordinate actions to ensure the staff absence has been adequately covered off by an alternate to ensure continuity of operations;
Represent RGM at Dismissal Board hearings, meetings with the Ministry of Labor and external governing agencies;
Manage all termination cases while minimizing legal and reputational risk for Rosebel Gold Mines;
Employees Relations and Communications

Analyze trends and metrics in partnership with your Community of Experts to develop solutions, programs and policies relating to Employees relations;
Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partner with the legal department as needed/required;
Provide HR policy guidance and interpretation regarding discipline and grievances, in line with COC and CLA;
Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues. Conduct effective, thorough and objective investigations as per COC and CLA during management of grievances;
Identify training needs for business units and devise solutions in partnership with the Organizational Development Community of Experts Establish a monthly report highlighting main issues and proposed solutions;
Communicate clearly and effectively with all stakeholders (employees, management, first line supervisors…);
Be the face and voice of RGM HR for answering any employees requests;
Keep appraised of best practices in your given functional area.




Qualifications

What we look for:


University degree, preferably in labor law;
In-depth understanding of the application of employment related legislation and various policies and procedures regulating employment conditions, workplace conflict and resolution;
At least 5 years’ labor relations experience working in a unionized environment;
Professionalism and discretion to maintain confidential information;
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
Computer literate (MS Office); fluency in Dutch and English required;
Good negotiating skills; conflict resolution skills; labor relations legislative interpreting skills; project management skills; group facilitation skills;
Ability to work in teams using a collaborative approach.
Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills including public speaking.
