Senior Hydrogeologist – Contract Position

·           3 to 4 month contract in Laos with immediate start

·           Assist the Geotechnical and Hydrogeological Superintendent address surface and groundwater issues through  a challenging, high rainfall wet season

·           Fly in, fly out on 28/14 roster

 

Reporting to the Geotechnical & Hydrogeological Superintendent, you will act as the hydrogeological expert to tackle the challenges associated with open pit operations in a high rainfall environment during the upcoming wet season. Your key focus will be slope depressurization, and surface water management during wet season.

In Laos, PanAust owns a 90 per cent interest in the Lao-registered company, Phu Bia Mining Limited. The Government of Laos owns the remaining 10 per cent. Phu Bia Mining owns and operates PanAust’s Phu Kham Copper-Gold and Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation.

This contract position is primarily based at our Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation, located approximately 120km north of the Lao capital Vientiane; however, as you will provide support to both Phu Kham and our Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation, you will be required to travel between the two sites.

Phu Kham Copper-Gold Operation is a conventional open pit mine producing approximately 85,000 tonnes of copper concentrate annually. The process plant, upgraded to a design capacity of 19 million tonnes per annum, comprises a SAG mill and two ball mill grinding circuits, each rated at 13 mega watts, with copper and precious metal recovery by flotation.         

Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver Operation comprises an open pit mine feeding ore to a conventional Carbon in Leach (CIL) and gravity recovery process plant. 

Your key responsibilities will include:

 

·       Provide technical expertise to identify, manage and report all water related risks and develop risk mitigation strategies

·       Maintain groundwater and surface water management plans

·       Plan and manage horizontal slope depressurisation drilling programs

·       Develop and implement groundwater monitoring programs

 

To be successful in this role, you will require:

 

·       Tertiary qualifications in geology or related degree, preferably with post qualification in hydrogeology

·       Proven experience in mining operations with a focus on groundwater management essential

·       Experience in groundwater testing and drilling programs

·       Software proficiency in Feflow and Modflow is preferred

·       Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills

·       Work effectively with the team and has shown initiative towards the job

·       Highly adaptable with strong commitment to train and support the growth of Lao National employees
