The Role :

The Mine Geologist/MineSight Specialist will perform his/her duties as a member of the Corporate Technical Service department, in close collaboration with other departments of the Division as well as at IAMGOLD mines and project sites. The Mine Geologist/Might Specialist will play an important role to support the implementation of the Hexagon’s MineSight geological software. In this role, the candidate will provide detailed scoping, implementation and training to the mine operations in order to ensure a smooth software transition. The candidate will also provide support to mine sites so that they can optimize the grade control practices during mining, and standardize the reconciliation processes & reporting practices.

Your Responsibilities:


Key Area: Ensure MineSight Software Implementation and data integrity


Duties:


Develop a structured Change Management plan to move from the Gems software to the MineSight software;
Ensure that all geological data is suitably transferred and validated, as well as securely retained in the geological database;
Ensure that all Quality control verifications are performed;
Complete detailed scoping at each mine site, developing a ‘Roles & Responsibility’ matrix for each geology department with the geological superintendent;
Define the workflows required to integrate the MineSight software into the mining sequence;
Develop comprehensive training program and material to include: Database management, Ore Control optimization, 3D geological modelling, Geostatistical and Resource/Reserve estimation, Auditing and Reporting functions.
Deliver on-site training to advance internal technical expertise during the implementation and testing;
Provide documentation and training manuals to each site.
Post implementation the incumbent will act as the software expert and advise both site geology and production teams to ensure the software is used properly and information is transferred accurately.


Key Area: Provide Mine Geology Technical Support


Duties:


Work as part of IAMGOLD’ S Corporate Technical Service department, in close collaboration with other departments of the division;
Provide review and support on grade control best practices;
Provide support on database management and QA/QC standards;
Map and analyze the reconciliation process between mine planning and mineral resource estimation and evaluation;
Support site review and analysis of grade control results to provide update and validate geological models;
Participate to standardization of the reconciliation processes and reporting practices at each site;
Liaise with the mine operation and project teams to ensure quality targets are met;
Appreciate the interaction of geostatistics with geology, mining, metallurgy and economics;
Assist the Manager, Mining Geology in the preparation of reports such as the estimation of resources and reserves.


Qualifications

What we look for:

Bachelor degree in geology or geological engineering from a recognized institution;

Registration as a professional geoscientist or eligibility for such registration (QP status);

Minimum of 5-8 year work experience in mining, on grade control resource estimation and evaluation;

High proficiency in MineSight software implementation in open pit operations is a must;

Ability to work with others in a team environment;

Understanding of open pit and underground mining;

Knowledge of database management systems and QA/QC principals;

Proficiency in 3D modelling software;

Excellent understanding of geostatistical and resource estimation methods;

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written, with both internal and external contacts and the ability to work with all levels of the organization;

Must be able to handle a high level of confidentiality;

Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent time management and organizational skills;

Bilingual English/French is an asset.
