Job Description

The Network Security Engineer will be a member of the Corporate IT Security team and will provide security operations support for all areas of Network Security. This role is responsible for helping with the planning, design and implementation of security solutions, and require close collaboration on multiple security-related projects and technologies, interfacing with team members within the IT organization as well as other internal business functions and external vendors.

Job Responsibilities
  • Work closely with IT staff to implement and maintain Security solutions
  • Monitor the network for security incidents, and participate as a team member to respond to cyber attacks and network breaches
  • Provide network security guidance and remediation on critical vulnerabilities
  • Staying up to date on latest threats in the wild
  • Perform network penetration testing, Wired and Wireless
  • Expected to respond to urgent requests and emergency situations outside business hours and during holidays
  • Support Security Projects
  • Deliver on Network Security Projects, e.g. implementation of new network technology, building a new site, or deploying a new security appliance
  • Review and audit existing firewall configuration and reports on discrepancies and recommending changes
  • Enhance existing security documentation
  • Raise awareness of security within IT and across the business functions, Provide IT professionals and the business with clear direction on security practices and procedures
  • Support and maintain IT Security standards, systems and processes
  • Review IT Security environment and recommend continuous improvements
  • Assist server, networking, application, and client service teams to deploy systems in a secure manner
  • Collaborate with physical security professionals responsible for securing Kinross mine sites

 

Scope of Responsibility & Complexity 

Work is advanced in its complexity and involves new methodologies, approaches, or products requiring the interpretation of information to make recommendations. This position provides technical expertise to multiple projects simultaneously. Problem resolution involves a high degree of independent judgment to interpret risk in situations where considerable variation in interpretation is possible.  Work is assessed based on attainment of objectives and effectiveness of results.  The role is based in Toronto, Canada but will be working with IT staff at all Kinross sites with infrequent travel to them.  

Education and Experience
  • 5 years’ experience with security operations and network security, including Firewalls, Intrusion Prevention, and 802.1X
  • 5 years’ experience with network routing, switching, and wireless
  • Prior experience in a mid to large tier organisation preferably within global context
  • Understanding and analyzing complex network architectures across varied environments
  • Strong understanding of enterprise LAN, WAN, VPN and Cloud technologies, related protocols and network devices.
  • Extensive experience with the following IT Security technologies
    • Cisc NextGen Firewall
    • Cisc NextGen IPS (SourceFire)
    • Cisc Identity Services Engine ISE
    • SlarWinds Orion NPM and NCM
    • Nessus Vulnerability Management
    • Cisc Wireless Technology
  • Strong technical aptitude with a desire for continuous learning and improvement
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Robust problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Passionate about Security
  • An undergraduate degree in computer science, business or engineering
  • A CISSP, SANS GIAC or equivalent designation is valued
  • CCNP Routing and Switching, CCNP Security certificates are valued
  • Additional languages (Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, French)
