Job Description

Oversees and provides leadership to the Operations Accounting teams, ensuring appropriate financial reporting and management, as well as governance and compliance.  Provides financial analysis and support to regional finance senior management team(s) in support of business strategies, initiatives and business planning.  

Job Responsibilities
  1. Actively provides support to the US Finance departments;
    1. Acts as backup controller for US sites; runs  month end process, reviews the results,  and identifies and corrects any discrepancies
    2. Liaises  with Supply Chain to provide additional; ensures processes are being followed
    3. Strong JDE systems knowledge
    4. Acts as key point of contact for inquires
    5. Participates in monthly operational reviews
  2. Actively monitors  the findings of the Internal audit group as they pertain to Operating accounting 
    1. Ensures they’re factored into consideration of the BPO process
    2. Works on specific initiatives on related to areas of improvement (ex. segregation of duties within JDE)
  3. BPO  Support for Corporate Finance
    1. Working with IT,  manages the Finance priority list
    2. Manages the quarterly balance sheet health check list; ensures findings are consistent to the BPO priority list
    3. Conducts periodic calls with sites to discuss areas of concern/current challenges
    4. Leads user group discussion group, when required
  4. Plays a strong communication/liaison role between corporate/regions and sites, ensuring corporate hears site’s needs.   
    1. It is important this position understands all communication on process between the sites and corporate.
    2. Conducts a quarterly meetings with the controllers.

5. Inventory Model Champion

  1. Ensures high level understanding of all sites models
  2. Provides assistance to sites in handling unique issues

6. Plays a lead role with KPMG,  especially as it pertains to the US sites

  1. Acts as the first line of response on KPMG questions of the operating sites
  2. Works closely with the Financial Reporting group during quarter-end
  3. Co-ordinates the timely return of effective and efficient  financial reporting packages from the operating sites
  4. Works with KPMG to co-ordinate timing of US audits,  provides active support, and compensates for site control deficiencies (when required)
  5. Conducts depreciation analysis

7. Assists in addressing key accounting issues

  1. Periodically circumstances change in an are requiring a re-think of the accounting, depending on the issue (generally how operational specific the issue is), this position may play a lead role in making the change.
  2. The position has a strong grasp of all the Kinross accounting policies.

8. Plays a limited but important role in the budgeting/forecasting process.

  1. Reviews inventory models and budgeted depreciation

9. Delivers ad hoc project work on time and on budget

Education and Experience


  • University degree in Finance or Accounting
  • Current accounting designation (e.g. CA, CPA or CMA) required or MBA degree



  • 8-10 years of related work experience
  • Experience leading professionals
  • Experience in developing a strategic plan that positioned the business for growth
  • Previous experience working at a mine site Financial department is preferred

• Expert knowledge of local finance and accounting regulations
• Strong management, communication and interpersonal skills
