The Role:

The Geologist will perform his/her duties as a member of the Corporate Technical Service department, in close collaboration with other departments of the Division as well as at Iamgold’s mines and project sites. The candidate will provide technical expertise to support Iamgold’s mine sites and projects, highlighting ‘best practices’ to maximize value and reduce risk. In this role, the candidate will develop the internal expertise of the teams, so that they can optimize the grade control practices during mining, and standardize the reconciliation processes & reporting practices. He/she will train the resource geologists with the Geostatistical and R&R estimation tools to ensure NI43-101 compliance and foster an environment of collaboration by engaging in teamwork and building relationships across departments.

Your Responsibilities:

Key Area: Technical Support – Mine Geologist

Duties:

Liaise with the mine operation and project teams to ensure quality targets are met;
Act as a resource person for technicians and geologists;
Frequent ‘on-site’ visits required (North America, South America & West Africa);
Provide support on grade control ‘best practices’;
Work to standardize the reconciliation processes and reporting practices at each site;
Participate in special projects in exploration and production, providing general support and service to the chief geologists;
Review and compile geological data to create, update and validate geological models;
Appreciate the interaction of geostatistics with geology, mining, metallurgy and economics;
Understand the relationship between mine planning and mineral resource estimation and evaluation.

Key Area: Provide support for Development Studies and Due Diligence Evaluations

Duties:

Assist in receiving and analyzing files that may be used for project participation or acquisition;
Participate in the development of courses or technical assistance to be given in our mines on protocols associated with resource estimates.

Key Area: Assistance to the Manager, Mining Geology

Duties:

Acquires, converts (if necessary) and validates the databases received;
Reviews geostatistical data and assesses the adequacy of quality control protocols for sampling and analysis (QA/QC);
Collects data during prospective mine site visits as part of a due diligence review;
Assists the Manager, Mining Geology in preparing & writing reports;
Assists in the preparation of training courses or technical support given to the mines on the correct protocols to be used to lead to a reserve calculation meeting internal and public standards.


Qualifications

What we look for:

Bachelor degree in geology or geological engineering from a recognized institution;

Must be part of a recognized professional association (QP status);

Minimum of 5-7 years of work experience in mining in a production environment, resource estimation and evaluation;

Additional qualifications – competency requirements

Open pit and underground mining experience;

Knowledge of database management systems and QAQC principals;

Proficiency in 3D modelling software (Leapfrog);

Proficiency with Gems, MineSight and Vulcan software;

Working knowledge of geostatistics applied during resource estimation;

Excellent communication, training and presentation skills;

Ability to interact with all levels of the organization.

Willing to take a leadership position, completing the job thoroughly and paying attention to detail;

Ability to manage multiple projects;

Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent time management and organizational skills.

Bilingual English/French is an asset.
