Job Description


Reporting to the Senior Drill & Blast Engineer/Drill & Blast superintendent and working closely with the Drill & Blast Engineers, you learn and oversee the technical design; implementation and monitoring of all drill and blast activities on site. You continually evaluate drill and blast performance and initiate improvements to achieve key outcomes. To be familiar with and understand the principles of the Tasiast environment policy, and to maintain and support procedures and work practices aimed at preventing accidents or injuries.

Job Responsibilities


  • Learn and support, Develop Drill and Blast design criteria to support safe & optimal mine operations
  • Learn & manage the design and implementation of the drilling and blasting field requirements
  • Conduct drilling and blasting support trials and making recommendations on their performance
  • Assist with continuous improvements in drilling and blast designs while ensuring they comply with mining regulations and site standards as they relate to Mine Safety and Geotechnical Wall Control blasting.
  • Coordinate with the Drill & Blast team to ensure maximum utilization of production drilling equipment as it relates to Production and Geotechnical Wall Control blasting.
  • Work closely with Drill and Blast personnel on issues relating to production drilling, blast and mine design.
  • Advise Drill & Blast Team on issues relating to production drilling, blast and mine design
  • Learn and support where electronic blasting activities are carried out.
  • Ensure that drilling and blasting plans for the open pit operation are carried using appropriate software packages following the correct procedures and standards.
  • Ensure that all reporting requirements and licensing conditions by regulatory bodies are met.
  • Learn and develop, maintain & update the Drill and Blast Management Plan.
  • Plan the collection, analysis and interpretation of drilling and blast data
  • Provide comprehensive and timely contributions to the daily, weekly, monthly and annual reports.
  • Conduct field trials to ensure maximum productivity is achieved through the monitoring of drilling and blasting consumables.
  • Learn and provide technical information on blast vibration as it applies to Geotechnical Wall Control practices.
  • Learn and assist in developing drill and blast budgets and forecasts as required.
  • Learn and complete fragmentation of blast optimizes downstream processes, eg mill throughput and productivity of diggers.
  • Improve the overall safety performance of the site including facilitating Job Safety Analysis’ and Incident Analysis’.
  • Promote the environment as an integral aspect to the department and ensure minimal disturbance to the environment.
  • Learn and maintain working knowledge of the Mauritanian Mining Regulations & ensure compliance with same.
  • Understand the Duty of Care requirements including the Tasiast Standards, Approved Codes of Practice, Industry standards and other legislation relevant to the area of responsibility.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills Requirements


Mandatory Requirements for this position:

  • Some knowledge of Mining Industry.
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications, preferably degree in mining engineering.
  • High level of computer literacy. Working knowledge on development and understanding excel worksheets.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Effective decision making and problem solving skills.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to build positive working relations with other team members.


Desirable Skill, Knowledge, Training, and Experience:

  • Dynamism, organized, sense of duty.
  • To have a valid driving license.
