Job Duties:

Freeport Minerals Corporation seeks Manager Government Regulations & Relations Balkans for its Phoenix, Arizona location to perform the following job duties:

Assist in government relations, regulatory compliance, community-social issues, and political/social/country risk assessment and mitigation strategies at project and country-entry levels. Work together with the local staff, outside consultants, and Freeport government relations/community-social responsibility (CSR) personnel to advise and assist Exploration projects through regulatory, community-social, and compliance challenges. Work under guidance of and coordination with the Freeport-McMoRan Exploration Compliance Officer. Provide initial political, economic, and regulatory risk assessments and possible mitigation strategies during country-entry stages for Freeport exploration investments in new and old countries of interest. Identify, establish contact, and manage relationships with relevant state representatives at national and local levels within US government agencies. Assist business development/business management professionals to ensure that all local, regional, and/or national license-scale regulatory/compliance deadlines and requirements are identified and met. Identify and establish positive contact with key stakeholders on exploration projects. Manage a positive ongoing regulatory, political, and business environment, positioning Freeport as the investor of choice in the countries of interest. Organize and manage a robust community engagement strategy in partnership with other relevant departments. Assist with coordinating and managing ongoing Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) anti-corruption law compliance. Assist with in-person training, as applicable. Manage local staff to provide necessary research and media monitoring of events that could influence Freeport’s position in the countries of interest. Perform other duties as required. Flexibility to travel 30-50% of time.

 

Minimum Requirements:            Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (e.g. international relations and political science) and five (5) years’ experience in related field. In the alternative, we will accept a Master’s degree in relevant field (e.g. international relations and political science) and three (3) years’ experience in related field. Any suitable combination of education, training, or experience is acceptable.

Skills:    Experience must include:

•             Ability to clearly and concisely communicate finding to regulatory and corporate audiences, both internal and external;

•             Thorough understanding of technical aspects of the exploration, development, and mining process, as well as working knowledge of different stages of projects in the United States and abroad;

•             Extensive experience with exploration projects worldwide, including Africa and Eurasia;

•             Design and implementation of sustainable development, community engagement, and corporate social responsibility projects in the region;

•             Proven track record in running programs to achieve and clear key regulatory hurdles in exploration or advanced exploration project/early-stage mine development;

•             Providing project political and economic risk analysis for future projects;

•             Demonstrated ability to learn and critically analyze the legislative, political, regulatory, and financial constraints on ongoing and future projects; and

•             Managing wide-ranging FCPA compliance programs.
