Location: Bibiani, Western Region, Ghana

Chirano is located in southwestern Ghana, approximately 100 kilometres southwest of Kumasi, Ghana's second largest city. The mine is within the Bibiani gold belt and consists of 11 deposits. Open pit and underground ore are processed at the Chirano plant. The capacity of the mill is approximately 3.5 million tonnes per annum. Processing involves crushing, ball mill grinding, leaching, and CIL.

Job Description

Perform and supervise geological activities in an underground and/surface mine. Ability to lead communication and interact effectively with key personnel from different teams (Mine Planning, Exploration, Mining, Metallurgy, etc).

Job Responsibilities
  • Ensure relevant Safety, Mining and other statutory Codes and Regulations remain in full compliance.
  • Actively participate in the Company’s Continuous Improvement Programmes.
  • Ensure compliance to established methodologies and quality standards related to mine operations while at the same time recommending new or alternate approaches.
  • Provide timely ore delineation, as accurately as is technically feasible, for mining and planning through accurate grade control.
  • Provide geological information to Mine Planning, Geotechnical and Mine operations Teams
  • Communicate ore feed changes and characteristics to key stakeholders
  • Ensure accurate and timely data collation for resource work and undertake data validation and maintenance of quality control systems.
  • Champion effort to minimize ore loss and dilution through improved understanding of geological controls
  • Create geological maps from field observations and field data collection
  • Stockpile management and data statistics
  • Perform other duties assigned by your Supervisors
Education and Experience
  • BSc Degree in Geology/Geological Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years’ working experience in a production environment including  underground mining.
  • Experience with  geological data collection including logging of drill holes, validation, interpretation and QAQC
  • Ability to use geological software’s such as surpac, leapfrog, datamine
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a wide diversity of geology related projects
  • Strong teamwork, leadership, advocacy and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to set priorities on competing issues according to business needs.
  • High degree of competence in written and verbal communication skills.
  • Motivated, self-starting, willing and independent, with high level of initiative.
  • Demonstrated commitment to health, safety, environment and community.
  • Valid Ghanaian Driving License and ability to drive underground.
