Senior Project Metallurgist - Sabodala Mine Site

Summary of Role

This is a 2-year, fly-in fly-out role: 8 weeks on / 4 weeks off roster with travel in company time to our Sabodala mine site in Senegal.

·         To complete project works as directed by the process manager(s) to drive improved plant performance.

·         To interact with external consultants as directed by HOD to provide and request information as required to complete various test work programmes and feasibility studies.

·         To provide technical support to the processing operation to ensure plant performance is optimised and processing development opportunities are identified and pursued.


Key Responsibilities

·         To optimise the gold recovery process through processing plant optimisation and effective cost management.

·         Ensure that all staff conduct themselves in a safe manner as prescribed by company policies and procedures and fulfil their required safety obligations.

·         Participate in the skills development training and succession planning for the local employees.

·         Maintain a culture of continuous improvement through the elimination of possible bottlenecks, systems development and review and sourcing alternative engineering solutions to benefit plant throughput and utilisation.

·         Assist other departments across site when required to ensure the productivity of the overall mine site is met.


Required Skills & Experience

·         Tertiary qualification – BEng or BSc Chemical Engineering, Minerals Engineering, Extractive Metallurgy or equivalent.

·         10 + years mineral processing experience (preferably gold), including at least 5 + years project related working experience (preferably in Africa).

·         Demonstrated operational experience with SABC grinding, gravity recovery, CIL and AARL elution circuits at a minimum, with TSF, flotation & refractory ore processing experience an added benefit.

·         Awareness of relevant dangerous good legislation, locally and selected international codes

·         Conversant with the general criteria of the cyanide management code

·         Experience with process control systems; Wonderware SCADA systems will be advantageous

·         Intermediate level skill and knowledge of a computer use including MS Office programs such as Outlook, Word, and Excel are desired. Database exposure required proficiency desirable

·         ERP experience, particularly Pronto XI experience will be advantageous

·         Preference will be given to French & English bilingual candidate, but ability to speak French not a prerequisite

·         Excellent leadership and management skills with proven ability to motivate and empower team

·         Ability to manage and develop staff

·         Must possess strong cultural sensitivity and be able to execute work successfully in a different culture

·         Excellent analytical, organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.

·         Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work with a sense of urgency
