The Role:

To manage and direct a successful execution of geology-related functions within the mine including planning, budgeting, staffing, cost containment and profitability. To work with the senior management team in developing the overall strategy for the mine.

Your Responsibilities:

Key Area: Establish and oversee the implementation of geological strategies and programs to maximize production efficiency and evaluation and exploitation of mineral resources.


Duties:


Ensure the effectiveness and accuracy of analysis and reporting relating to geology programs and processes.
Ensure effective grade control is applied at the mine site through geological mapping.
Act as the “Qualified Person” (legislative section), signing off on mineral resources.
Provide information regarding production geology issues such as grade control, planning, ground conditions and ore body location to ensure safety and maximize production.
Monitor the achievement of plans and targets as well as the delivery of geological services to the site.

Key Area: Establish and manage the site exploration program


Duties:


Establish short and long term strategies and objectives for exploration.
Oversee and lead the development and execution of project plans and budgets.
Develop exploration systems, procedures and policies in compliance with regulatory and governance requirements.
Define new mineral resource ounces that are convertible to ore reserves and recommend exploration projects based on mine targets and plans.

Key Area: As a member of the management team contribute to the establishment and achievement of the overall strategy and objectives of the mine.


Duties:


Provide assistance to develop and achieve the overall strategy and goals of the company.
Assist the management team in determining the direction and establishing the mid-to long-term operations and project development objectives for the geology department.
Identify options and implement actions to adopt best practices for geology, including evaluation and exploration activities.
Provide top-level assistance and recommendations to the management team regarding geology-related issues, including exploration activities and program results.
Provide recommendations to the management team in the establishment and execution of the overall geology and exploration budget.

Key Area: Provide leadership to the geology team.


Duties:


Build an appropriate team through recruitment and development.
Ensure that training is provided to meet with the current and future needs of the mine.
Ensure the necessary manpower and equipment is in place to meet production goals, within budgeted costs.
Provide clear work objectives and expectations of the performance levels required to achieve business objectives and production goals.
Manage performance by setting expectations, conduct performance reviews and providing feedback and coaching to direct reports.



Qualifications

What we look for:

University degree in geology or geological engineering.

Registration as a Professional Geoscientist.

Minimum 10 years of geology experience, of which 3 years have been in a mine production environment.

Minimum 5 years in a supervisory role
