Mine Manager, Wahgnion - Burkina Faso

Mine Manager, Wahgnion 

Summary of Role

This is fly-in fly-out role: 8 weeks on / 4 weeks off roster with travel in company time to our Wahgnion operations in Burkina Faso.

 

Key Responsibilities

As a member of the senior management team reporting to the Site General Manager, the candidate will provide leadership on functional, technical and people related objectives and activities which will include the following;

 

Management of Department

·         Act as a leader in all areas by assisting, planning, developing, implementing, reviewing and monitoring activities to optimize the operation of the mine, while evaluating economic implications,

·         Act as a change leader, always looking for ways to improve how we operate in an effective and efficient manner,

·         Ensure safe, efficient extraction of material in accordance with statutory obligations & best practises,

·         Develop and elaborate strategies in order to meet the gold production targets,

·         Ensure that all activities are done according to LOM, budget and forecasts,

·         Oversee all people related activities behaving in a manner consistent with company values and expected behaviours,

·         Oversee the work for monthly and annual corporate reporting of various mining statistics,

·         Manage relationships and contractual requirements with contractors and service providers. 

 

Cost

         Carry out duties of managing all activities in the most cost-effective manner possible to deliver required gold production,

         Accountable for the preparation of the mining budget and on delivery (costs and time),

         Negotiate and manage 3rd party service providers in order to reduce costs,

         Monitor KPIs and follow through with action plans,

         Helps others in identifying initiatives in increasing costs efficiencies.

Planning

         Use best practices in mine planning, organize and coordinate production with the Processing Manager and others,

         Set up and implement schedules for mine production and equipment to optimize productivity and coordinate efforts with contractors and the mine engineering team,

         Plan work according to business requirements and guides all activities accordingly,

         Keep focus on longer term objectives while achieving shorter goals,

         Orchestrate and monitor activities in order to achieve business expectations,

         Assist with feasibility studies of future mine sites in the corporate strategic plan.

 

People & Team Management

·         Develop and coach a team approach with shared objectives,

·         Develop and maintain an appropriate succession plan for the department,

·         Review and communicate individual and team performances in daily, weekly, monthly team meetings,

·         Follow and support key human resources and people practices and programs,

·         Create and maintain strong relationship with all internal and external stakeholders including government, agencies, financial, etc.).

 

Required Skills & Experience

·         Degree in Mining Engineering required & Masters’ Degree in Business is an asset

·         Minimum 15 years' experience in a hard rock open pit mining environment, in progressively responsible positions with previous experience as a Mine Manager or equivalent position

·         Minimum 5 years experience as an Expat at a remote location (preferably West Africa)

·         Ability to develop and manage budgets

·         Strong communication skills in English, (French is an asset) to effectively interact with national employees

·         Demonstrated record of developing and working with "best in industry" practices

·         A proactive approach to modern safety management systems and practices

·         Excellent leadership and management skills with proven ability to motivate and empower team. Demonstrated experience coaching, mentoring, and developing employees

·         Must possess strong cultural sensitivity and be able to execute work successfully in a different culture

·         Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and knowledge of ERP systems (ie Pronto)
