Mobile Maintenance - Welding Supervisor - Wahgnion mine, Burkina Faso

Summary of Role

This is an expatriate 2-year fly-in fly-out role: 8 weeks on / 4 weeks off roster with travel in company time to our Wahgnion project & new mine site in Burkina Faso. 

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Mobile Maintenance Superintendent and in cooperation with the Supervisors and Team members, this position requires a self-motivated individual to design, implement and oversee the life cycle strategies of equipment in line with the asset management system, plan and schedule repairs to ensure a sustainable high level of welding repairs and maintenance is accomplished.

  • Train and mentor current site personnel.
  • Design and develop procedures and policies to suit the environment and resources available.
  • Maintain a level of high work performance in accordance with KPI standards and/or job order specifications.
  • Work includes designing, set-up, laying out work using fixtures and guides to repair, modify, or fabricate parts and / or equipment products.
  • Take responsibility of site resources and supporting equipment to include operational maintenance, daily inspections and quality control.
  • Plan and schedule repairs in line with current maintenance scheduling.
  • Participate in long term planning, budgeting and asset management activities.
  • Actively track equipment performance and downtime events to enable optimized reliability.
  • Provide solutions and engineering methods of repair in line with OEM standards.
  • Have the overall capacity to repair structures and provide detailed failure analysis.
  • Design and implement strategies for regular structural maintenance of minor, major and rebuild components of the fleet to include all repairs on location within the workshop and field areas.
  • Has the capacity to oversee activities in multiple work areas. 



·         Be responsible and accountable for the allocated budget and all costs associated with the maintenance of the mobile fleet section, including structural components and consumables.

·         Work with Management to prepare the annual budget based on equipment hours and conditions.

·         Manage maintenance personnel, contractors and equipment in the most cost-effective manner possible as requested.


·         Develop and promote compliance with the Mobile fleet maintenance system.

·         Ensure that the site ERP Software (Pronto) forms a key part of the maintenance system and that all work packs are available and maintained for the section.

·         Initiate and support suitable daily systems to report on wear items, track wear and planned events.


Required Skills & Experience

  • Possess a formal Welding Certification qualification with experience in welding maintenance and manufacturing field with a current Coded Welder Certification.
  • 10+ years of experience maintaining repairs on mobile & mining equipment is required.
  • 3+ Years experience supervising a maintenance or welding team in a developing country (preferably Africa).
  • NDT ability is preferred with the ability to reduce downtime events and improve reliability of equipment.
  • Line boring experience is an asset.
  • Experienced using a CMMS to provide accurate prediction of future activities and costs. Pronto experience will be preferred.
  • Working knowledge of appropriate software programs that will facilitate the reporting and control aspects of the role (Word, Excel, Project, Pronto, Access).
  • Preference will be given to French & English bilingual candidate
  • Driver’s License essential.
  • Demonstrated people management experience including ability to coach and mentor team members of diverse backgrounds.
  • Must possess strong cultural sensitivity and be able to execute work successfully in a different culture.
