Chief Geologist - Rosebel Mine Site

The Role:

The role of the Chief Geologist is to provide technical leadership in geological modeling to the Geology Department’s Resources, Grade Control and Minex sections, plus other departments of the company such as Mine Engineering, RGM management and IMG management. The role is focussed on development of geological concepts and models at Rosebel and the effective use of these in defining and expanding Rosebel’s resources and reserves and the exploitation of those reserves. In order to achieve this, the Rosebel Chief Geologist must possess advanced expertise and experience in the structural geology of transform fault gold deposits, geostatistics, statistics, technical software, assay QAQC and geological field work practice. The Chief Geologist is central in defining and monitoring technical specifications for the work performed by Resources Section, Grade Control Section, Minex and the laboratory.

Your Responsibilities:

Database quality management (basis of all work done in the department)
Specify assay QAQC procedures and ensure that they are followed. Analyse QC results and direct Geology/Laboratory efforts to correct anomalies.
Develop field techniques and data processing methodologies for geological mapping and logging. Ensure adherence.
Train others.

3D Geological Modeling.

Develop geological interpretations for each deposit. Review interpretations and corresponding models developed by others.
Control dissemination of models to final users.

Mineral Resources Modeling and Grade Control Modeling.

Develop appropriate methodologies for the modeling of ore deposit attributes such as grade, hardness, density, probability, diluted recovery, etc.
Drive refinement and calibration of models via reconciliation processes.
Train geologists in these methodologies.
Review and approve models.
Control dissemination of models to final users.

Develop Models and Targets for Mine Exploration Group.

Study RGM data and models, review academic research to develop exploration models and targets.
Provide technical guidance to Mine Exploration in collection, logging and interpretation of data.


What we look for:

Bachelor, Master, or ideally PhD, in Geology.
Registered (or ability to obtain registration) within an appropriate professional organisation.
Minimum 10 years’ experience in Exploration and Mining Operations; appropriate level of resource modeling and geostatistical analysis.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written, with both internal and external contacts and the ability to work with all levels of the organization.
Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented.
Must be able to handle a high level of confidentiality.
Ability to work with and effectively lead others in a team environment.
Ability to organize, prioritize and effectively delegate job duties.
Pleasant and courteous in interpersonal interactions.
Good knowledge of the following software: Isatis, Excel, GEMS.
Ability to envision and think in conceptual 3D aspects.
Ensure that data collected is complete, accurate, precise and timely.
