Job Description


Reporting to the HS Superintendent, the incumbent will provide technical support to operational and administrative areas, aimed at meeting the requirements of encouraging everyone involved in constant pursuit of the organization's prevention of occupational incidents. The position assists with the monitoring, inspection of the area, and observing working conditions detecting adverse situations, emphasizing preventive activities in support of the Health & Safety programs at Kinross. 

Job Responsibilities


  • Provide a visible presence in the field promoting the occupational health and safety principles established in Tasiast’s health and safety policy.
  • Work with expatriates and local nationals to develop and embed a culture of safety.
  • Provide daily guidance to supervision in the management of health and safety related matters.
  • Communicate to line management the status of the health, safety and risk management initiatives.
  • Assist line management in the identification of hazards and the implementation of hazard controls.
  • Conduct hazard risk assessments on all routine and non-routine tasks within his or her area of responsibility.
  • Review Job Hazard Analysis’ and other field level risk assessment to determine currency and accuracy.
  • Monitor through observations, inspections and audits the work conditions and work practices of employees and contractors to ensure compliance with legislation and conformance to Tasiast’s health and safety rules and standards.
  • Monitor the close-out of remedial actions and recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate records to meet legal and Tasiast programme requirements.
  • Prepare and distribute daily shift report that includes all activities conducted during the shift
  • Have all safety information boards updated on daily basis
Education and Experience


  • Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in a health and safety role in heavy industry.
  • NEBOSH training will be highly regarded.
  • Familiar with OSHA standards and procedures
  • Proficiency in MSWord, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Fluency in English
  • Physically fit to work
  • LV Driving licence

  • Possesses excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Fluency in French and local dialects is an asset.
