The Role:

To ensure compliance with all regulations and operating permit requirements. To assist the Environmental Manager in the maintenance of a proactive approach to all environmental concerns and maintenance of good relations with the regulating authorities and the public. To provide on-site environmental training, awareness and direction to environmental staff and other site personnel in the safe completion of project and the permitting of the Cote Gold Project into the next stages of development. Promote and demonstrate the IAMGOLD Company Values at all times.

Your Responsibilities:

Key Area: Site Operations


Provide daily technical support and assistance to the Environmental Manager directly related to construction supervision and other contractors/consultants in planning and execution of field activities in accordance with environmental project requirements and mitigation measures
Monitoring all activities at the mine site that are potentially harmful to the environment and seek ways to improve them

Coordinate the implementation of and provide direction with regard to ongoing environmental permitting initiatives as they pertain to on and off site contractors, consultants and site staff and personnel

Prepare environmental field reports/memos, compliance reports, and online reporting functions as they pertain to regulatory and permit requirements

Maintain field environmental compliance files

Participates in meetings and field inspections with the company, companies consultants, and regulatory agency personnel, as required

Key Area: Environmental Legislation


Implementation, development and continuous improvement of environment-related processes and procedures
Assisting in the assessment of new projects for potential environmental/legislative conflicts

Staying abreast of environmental legislation

Assisting in the development and implementing procedures and scopes of work to satisfy provincial and federal government regulatory requirements

Stand in for the Environmental Manager to liaise with Government Agency personnel regarding permits, permit violations, permit amendments, etc.

Implementation of procedures and policies and proactive measures and studies to prevent permit violations and further project development at the operational level

Key Area: Site Personnel


Providing environmental information and training to employees
Supervise the Environmental Staff (Env. Technologists/Technicians and Env. Database/compliance)


What we look for:

Bachelor of Science or Technical Diploma in Environment Studies.

10-15 years of environmental and mining related experience. (Minimum of 15 if Technical Diploma)

Excellent knowledge of Government Acts and Regulations.

Good understanding of the environmental impact of mining and milling processes.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written, with both internal and external contacts and the ability to work with all levels of the organization

Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented

Must be able to handle a high level of confidentiality

Ability to work with others in a team environment

Ability to organize and prioritize job duties

Pleasant and courteous in interpersonal interactions

Good IT knowledge
