The Role: The Category Specialist negotiates contracts for goods and services for all business units at the lowest total cost. The incumbent follows the policies, practices and procedures established when carrying out the tasks. The individual is a specialist in product categories and informs business units about the evolution of the market. The Specialist manages the supplier tracking program, looks for new business opportunities and coordinates testing with sites. In addition, it coordinates the timing of the implementation of annual contracts.

Your Responsibilities:
Supply contract negotiation and management

Negotiate global contracts while maintaining good relationships with suppliers.
Understand and follow purchasing policies.
Take part in the development of the annual contract negotiation plan.
Understand business unit needs and choose the best and cost-effective alternative.
Use reversed marketing when needs can’t be met by current markets.
Perform business and marketing risk management analyses.
Know and follow the contract implementation procedure.
Request quotes, complete analyses, provide recommendations and write contracts based on approved document models.
Answer information requests from internal clients.
Apply Supplier Management Program (SMP).
File documents in the information system.
Escalate situations when they require knowledge of significant business decision impacts.
Provide assistance on special projects.
Follow-up on non-conformities, rebates, & tests associated with the contracts implemented under their responsibility and communicate back the updates at site level.
Mitigate risks when transitioning from previous supplier to new supplier and follow-up closely with suppliers and sites during the phase in/phase out.
Proactively inform sites of any upcoming foreseeable situations and proactively contact their suppliers to ensure that the site supply chain will not be comprised by these events and recommend an alternative plan as needed. Example: Railcar situations, Coronavirus, etc.
Escalate situations when they require knowledge of significant business decision impacts.
Answer information requests from internal clients.
Apply Supplier Management Program (SMP).
File documents in the information system.
Provide assistance on special projects by supplying updated pricing to Corporate metallurgists for their reviews of cost structures for prefeasibility/feasibility studies; by assisting the Construction department in the supplier selection for product groups that will be managed by GSC in the future when these projects become operational. (Example: Fuel Farm & Fuel for Boto, Emulsion plant & explosives for Boto, etc.)
Manage & coordinate different projects in a timely manner efficiently & effectively.
Develop strategies to mitigate risks for designated product groups.
Deploy corporate standards at site levels in regards to contract management
Supplier management program.

Control and validate price changes in its amenities and create a culture of long-term savings.
Organize periodic meetings with suppliers to follow up on the contract by choosing to interchange each review with site visits, supplier plant audit visits for key suppliers, GSC visit at our premises or Conference calls.
Enter price changes and partnership tracking into the SharePoint system.
Monitor supplier performance to ensure that the terms and conditions of the contract are met and that performance meets customer expectations.
Produce a monthly report outlining key achievements (negotiated contracts, savings, etc.)
Market watch in its specialisation category

Track market developments and share information with business units.
Participates in mining buying groups, forums, conferences & tradeshows on designated product categories.
Offers projects to the company in order to deliver innovative solutions enabling the globalization of activities in this category.
Supply standardised reports for each site and for Toronto Budget meeting: containing the actual pricing with forecast pricing for their designated product group such as: Annual Budget Price Forecasts, 3A+9F Budget Price Report.
Constantly search for better practices in the industry and new sources of suppliers in preparation for upcoming bidding processes and proactively request testing at site level to mitigate risks where


Qualifications

What we look for:
University degree
Technical certification or official professional certification (APCA, CPIM or other)
General knowledge of the mining sector
Bilingual (French & English), spoken and written
Minimum of 8 years of related experience
Previous experience in preparing requests for quotation and cost analyses
General knowledge of computer systems (Oracle and Microsoft Suite).
General knowledge of inventory management, logistics, shipping, transportation, and governmental regulations regarding equipment delivery.
General knowledge of mechanical and chemical principles and terminology.
Excellent knowledge of categories and supply management principles.
Good negotiating and networking skills.
Excellent communication skills.
Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize responsibilities.
Ability to work in a team.
